Those of us familiar with anxiety, know all too well the feeling of panic, turmoil, dread, or a general uneasiness. Then the rush of impending doom washes over us soon followed by sweats and a rapid heart beat. Am I having a heart attack? Nope, just an anxiety attack.
1 in 4 People Suffer
Anxiety or Pain Attacks are recognized as a medical issue. Eveybody gets anxious from time to time, that's normal. It becomes abnormal when it is severe or excessive. The harder you resist an attack the greater it becomes, and can keep us from completing our daily activities such as work, school, and other social events. That is when help is needed.

Anxiety
Sufferers say they can feel an attacking coming before it hits, but can do little to stop it. Like a wall of water when it washes over you leaving you refreshed.
An anxiety attack washes over you leaving you paniced, sweating, and fearful of impending doom. Catastrophizing soon follows where those suffering think of "what if" thinking. Imagining all of the worst possible things that will soon happen to them.
Now a rational mind knows that all of the worst case swenarios likely will never happen, the nervous mind sees them all as a real and likely outcome. The intensity of the attack over time lessens and the rational part of our brain regain control of the mind to again restore calm.
OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder)
Uncontrollable and reccuring thoughts followed by a compulsion or behavior they use to lessen the recurring thought. A vicious cycle.
The treatment is to break the cycle of the compulsion and then see nothing bad happened. A great deal of stress and anxity are expierenced in the absence of the compulsion to carryout the behavior.
Like the obecession to check the lock on the door, the fear is if we don't check the lock something bad will happen. Carring out the compulsion only acts to strengthen the obsession. How does one get off this crazy ride?
Again interupting the cycle is the answer. When you don't engage in the behavior (compulsion), and nothing bad happens your brain realizes the danger is not real. Soon the obsessive thoughts will stop.
